The internet is a physical thing. It runs along five hundred and seventy cables on the seafloor, through a few thousand peering rooms, and across the speed of light — which, as it turns out, is barely fast enough. These instruments draw the network as it really is: a planet-scale graph that pulses with route announcements and aches with distance.
